Today in class ... Using a story on population that we read together as a class, each class used a reading guide to further examine the article, including the problem exposed and textual evidence to support our findings.

Thursday, April 24

Today in class ... Population/Human Systems video was shown for part of the class, with a focus on why people settle where they do, why populations move from one place to another, the physical characteristics in determining how various populations live. We had assigned questions to answer for discussion and review of key terms and ideas we've learned about population.

Test/Project and/or practice homework ... No homework was assigned, though students are to bring back their assigned video questions and responses for Friday.

Wednesday, April 23

Today in class ... We examined the different continents in relation to their size and population, including discussions and examples on population density and population distribution. An emphasis placed on why some are more dense than others and why it's not evenly distributed.

Tuesday, April 22

Today in class ... We completed the Population Distribution notes (both the physical and human factors) and discussion. We began dissecting Population Growth topic and the reasons behind it.

Project/Test and/or practice homework ... Students should complete both the Cause & Effect Chart and "The World's People" population worksheet.

Monday, April 21

Today in class ... Each class continued with Population Distribution notes and discussion. We also completed and went over the Interpreting/Reading Population Maps atlas activity.

Monday, April 14

Today in class ... We took a look at and discussed the population growth of the world over the past 2000 years, including a close look at population density.

Test/Project and/or practice homework ... Based on the class discussion and previous reading, students are to complete a short response to the question:

1) 3 advantages of living in a densely populated area.
2) 3 advantages of living in an area that isn't very densely populated.

Friday, April 11

Today in class ... An introduction to our next unit on population. We also went over how to properly use the reading guide as it relates to our population reading.

Test/Project and/or practice homework ... Read pages 86-90 in the textbook and complete the assigned reading guide.

Thursday, April 3

Today in class ... Using the knowledge we gained on Wednesday from the hands-on activity from the culture traits posters, students now compared and contrasted those traits to what we see in American culture. Students prepared short presentations to show the rest of the class how their specific culture trait is the same, different and obscure in comparison to the culture we are most familiar with.

Wednesday, April 2

Today in class ... Each class worked together in a hands-on activity placing and matching various culture traits with the appropriate photos and examples that were provided.

Tuesday, April 1

Today in class ... Each class continued culture discussion, with the focus being on the importance of diversity and how American culture has gone from a "melting pot" to a "salad bowl." Group and class discussion based on the critical thinking metaphors that were given.

Test/Project and/or practice homework ... Students are to complete the one paragraph summarizing the discussion and topic: Provide one paragraph description/summary of how has the American culture changed from a "melting pot" to a "salad bowl."
